(It's Sweet Sorrow by David Nichols, for future reference)
Interesting because it took me a while to get into it, understand the author's style of story telling, understand the personality of the characters, what they mean, how they joke around.
Back then I wouldn't have had the patience to go on.
The number of books I never bothered to finish, now sitting on my bookshelf.
But somehow, I'd say most probably new year's resolution & whatnot, I soldiered through this one.
& it's turning out pretty great, I've even laughed out loud at many points.
Kinda reminds me of movies I used to watch in my 20s,
With so much time to browse through IMDB looking for the perfectly mediocre film with a score of 5-6.5 maybe, sometimes allowing 4s,
With a synopsis that sounds tolerable & a cast that catches my eyes.
Through this I'd found gems like
Me & Earl & The Dying Girl
Little Miss Sunshine
Sunshine Cleaning
Ruby Sparks
Youth in Revolt
Oh God I could go on & on.
Honorary mention for The Fall & Moonrise Kingdom which were suggested to me by Imara.
It was like the great era of movies.
I'm not talking mind-blowing Oscar stuff.
Just simple, heart touching, easy watching.
I remember discovering actors like Paul Dano, Miles Teller, Michael Cera & going down their list & watching everything I could,
Following their career afterwards.
Maybe I'm just the one who got lost in the convenience of Netflix & whatever's available.
Actually I'm sure this is exactly the case.
But also I just don't have time to be combing through IMDB & torrents anymore.
I guess I could make time.
But for now I'll take my own sweet time finishing Sweet Sorrow & see where that takes me.
At least it's making me excited enough to be planning a whole read list for the year.
Now I just gotta follow through.
Whatever it is,
To 2022 & finding myself back.
